Now I’m wondering whether Patience conjured an imaginary friend with freakishly large extremities as a means of finding solace about the size of her own hands. Or if he’s just proportioned correspondingly to her. It’s probably that.

How many months has it been since Obtusangelo’s funeral? Since Katie and Patience both start sweating as soon as Pasqualo starts acting off, I am guessing that something has been going on.
Also, since Patience never describes what Mr. Mumpus looks like, I think this is merely what Pasqualo fathoms he looks like.
