Oh, they’re bringing back the year 1981. Yeah, they figure if we just SAY it’s 1981, we’ll get the 1981 economy (and treatment of minorities…) back.
Incredibly, not the dumbest policy being implemented.
When does PFM/It Hurts take place? I’m guessing It Hurts takes place around when it was coming out, but you hardly see any of the characters with phones or anything. PFM has cellphones as a commonplace occurrence, but Katie seems to recognize 1981 as a fairly recent year and there’s a few references to the Cold War. It could be some Riverdale-type nonsense, where there’s no defining date, but I sincerely doubt Gob is an Riverdale fan (if he is no judgement, so am I) Gob and/or Josef please assist with this temporal bullshit, how will I write fanfics?
Josef can explain PFM’s time. He mentions a year to me every once in a while, but it quickly flies out of my head.
As for It Hurts, I basically… tried not to date it? Probably failed. I know there’s a handful of dated and obscure memes in there, which I regret using. It took place in the 2010s but it was a strange world that was based on what it was like for me and my friends growing up, who didn’t have phones and wandered around in the woods and broke shit for fun. I’m old as fuck, and I wanted to create a pretend world where kids just kinda hung out and phones were barely a thing. If I remember correctly, the apocalypse took away the internet, too, much to Pasqualo’s dismay. I wasn’t trying to make a statement doing it this way, it’s just what I wanted for those kids.
yeah the pfm timeline starts in 2018 when we started publishing it. of course history is a little different in the pfm universe, and I enjoy making these young characters have an older frame of reference than what would be expected (hence all the dreamcast stuff)
I didn’t know sushi could talk.
That’d do numbers today if the right person marketed it to the right people…
You could even say, if the alt-right person marketed it to the alt-right people.
i apologize for being a nitpicky ninny but you have a small typo on this page where you typed ‘in 1981’ instead of ‘last week.’

Is that Tadakichi-san?
I thought people stopped watching Azumanga Daioh, good god
Lol he might as well be!
Please tag the dog as Tadakichi-san, literally the last thing I need to cure my depression
Well if that’s literally all you need, then sure.

Have only one or two years passed since the comic began? It would be kind of funny if Covid struck just as the comic wrapped up.
Not even a year. The comic began in the fall, progressed through winter and spring, and now we’re in summer.
