Finished chapter 23! I (gob) will be taking a break from drawing for a short bit. Gonna play Deltarune, read manga, sleep a little more, then get back to drawing at a more relaxed pace to prepare for updating again. Also, I might be AFK for a few weeks. Thanks for your Patience!
I’ll ask Josef to chime in on this one too, but… From what I remember, we came up with this during a back-and-forth brainstorming session. We’ve been planning this part for years. At first, we wanted it to be a giant 9/11 memorial at the border of the barrens. The closer we got to this moment, we both felt we could do better / funnier than “9/11 memorial.” I randomly blurted out “a memorial for the Philly Phanatic” and Josef went with that. lol this dumb shit just makes me giggle. As for it relating to Trump? I don’t think so, but me and Josef are both pretty left-leaning. Maybe we came up with this during Trump’s first term? I don’t remember. Josef?
That’s a pretty good perspective on putting politics into stories. Being a little vague but more or less defined about your political perspective is the best way to do it, in my opinion.
Also I saw on your Bsky that this was the third-last arc or something. I feel like PFM has literally no other option than to have a satisfying conclusion, and I think it’s genuinely the perfect length.
(I also appreciate how you have multiple webcomics of reasonable length as opposed to one absurdly long one that frightens newcomers. El Goonish Shive and Gunnerkrigg Court have always turned me off for this reason, but the pacing for It Hurts/PFM is spot on.)
Agent Orange? No, Agent Green.
The cartoony trees next to the more realistic ones in the barrens is a touch i can always appreciate
Trisssh has a funny blend of political beliefs.
Anyways, time to sand with The Barrens First Nation and demand Shumway respect their treaty rights.
Is this a metaphor for the whole Trump situation? Is your political frustration seeping into the comic? I approve!!

nah, not trump. just general american jingoism
“Those fucking rich people” has been a vibe for a while.
We just happen to have just elected someone that has us saying “Those FUCKING rich people.”
I thought it was about war we have here in Europe. The treaty take-baksies reference especially.
“something in a work of fiction is vaguely bad in any potentially definable way, IS THIS TRUMP?? THAT’S TRUMP RIGHT??”
good god can’t you people ever detach
Aw Shiiieeeet, the endgame is starting
Wow. So it actually IS a sort of a “fighting machine”, even if I came to that conclusion in a completely wrong and irrelevant way.
