I don’t know if Dad ‘knew exactly who he was talking to’. He just said things from his own sociopathic point of view and it happened to mesh perfectly with the sociopathic point of view of the person he was talking to.
He’s on a first-name and hoagie-basis with them, which is as close to friendly as I think we’ve ever seen him towards other people. If I had to guess, I’d say the pitch-black nihilism and misanthropic sentiments are partly what connects them.
