I’m still not sure why Yosef/Job made their own major character a racist. Like, I know It Hurts had a guy who was all whingy and emo and “Baww I’m sad that my girlfriend destroyed the world”, but it really feels like they’re trying to one-up that for no reason. Makes it hard to relate to her, y’know?
in this case I think it’s just the unhealthy side of her personality showing in a world where there aren’t global stakes. She’s kinda defined by being “conspiratorial but right,” and as shown here, she’s right to be wary of the monsterfolk since they’re way more willing to kill than humans. We know she’s at her core a decent person, but she still has her faults and this is definitely a consistent one.
If I had to guess, I expect this will actually be explored in a later arc.
I like this racist Katie. As a giant flaming spider myself I despise most bipeds with a burning (lmao) passion to such a degree it has become my entire personality. Any creature great or small that shares my wholehearted disdain towards another is a (friend) of mine.
Anyone else feel this is page is kinda racist from a meta perspective? Like it’s very clearly an allegory and the implications and what it’s trying to say is very troubling when you apply it to what it’s commenting on irl.
My read on the story is that it’s poking fun at heavy-handed metaphors for racism in some other works (some of Marvel’s X-Men storylines, for example) in which the differences go so far beyond race that the intended allegory becomes ridiculous. Wanting a government registry of people who can bring down a building if they have a bad day isn’t the same as irl racism, and, similarly, an eight-foot-tall flaming spider is not actually the same as your average high schooler.
Katie has no right making fun of other folks’ faces when her mouth just turned into a butt-hole.
If he’s still in love despite what it did to his lips, that means he hadn’t gone to third base yet.
Wtf you mean homeboy? That mans had his ass ate. He’s been to every damn base.
