So I really like this comic. The art is great, and the story is fun and the characters are likable.
But if you’re taking criticism, the dialog is a bit wordy. A lot of the jokes are weakened because characters talk too much. For example, in the last speech bubble, you could easily have cut out the last two lines. Readers can be trusted to understand that she admires Mr. Jones, for example.
Just a bit of constructive criticism. Take it as you will.
In the last speech bubble, the “I want to grow up to be a capable guy like you” is part of what sends the message home.
I agree, though, that sometimes the dialogue can go on for a bit that it may transition on the “Love It or Hate It” scale. I’ve noticed, though, that that’s generally padding for when something big happens later on; because it’s a fair amount of text, in a medium font size and in a comparatively small speech bubble, or it’s just become the style of the comic.
I don’t think the point of Mr. Jones’s tears would come across if the line were just a celebration of vampire-eating ability. It’s not just recognition of Jones’s skill, and it’s not even just gratitude; the reason that he feels that he has reached a student, and a tear has come to his eye, is because she has expressed a desire to emulate him. That’s what “getting through” to a student means here.
If you remove that element from the final panel, Jones’s tears just become confusing.
It’s a little hard to explain the last line. You remove it, it seems like it’s supposed to be some sincere moment. Add it and her dialogue becomes awkward and overstated, which is like 90% of the humor in this comic.
I suppose the best way to explain it is that the whole comic is deliberately shitty. The art, the dialogue, the jokes, the story. Pasqualo is horribly depressed and he copes with dumb humor and self depreciation. The awkward lines are just part of the entire world being this shitty place (except Aurora, who’s even drawn differently to differentiate her from everyone else). I mean, post comic 100 is almost entirely wish fulfillment. His best friend’s an awesome zombie, he’s an awesome cyborg, they’ve got the world to themselves, they’re beating up vampires and demons. It’s a 14 year old’s shitty dream.
Of course that doesn’t make Gob immune to criticism, but it does actually take skill to balance the comic between intentionally hipster shitty and just regular shitty. If there’s several people mentioning the wording is just regular shitty then Gob probably missed the mark somewhere.
It sounds no such thing. Imagine that she is excitedly exclaiming that statement in a single excited zombie-stank breath. She’s the new goddamn zombie king, she doesn’t have the time to pause for a clause.
This is the best webcomic I have ever read, ever. Not only that, it is the best comic I have ever read, and perhaps the most well-written story. I want to explain this to you in no uncertain details why because you deserve to know, Mr. Gob. (By the way, my previous favorite was Paranatural, which is still great but this blows it out of the water and then smacks its fucking face silly.)
I’m going to start by briefly talking about art, or at least what I think art is (editor’s note: not just Mona Lisa and the Scream). The intended effect of art is a reaction of any sort, which you have pulled off so well that it has completely reinvigorated my ideas of what are possible. It might seem silly to you to call this webcomic a masterpiece of art, given its seemingly simple style, but in my eyes it is. Nothing has gotten so much of a reaction out of me in a long time, not to mention such a reinvigorating one. I won’t lie, when I was first linked to it I thought it was a joke, but I was ever-so-quickly absorbed into its phenomenal devil-may-care attitude and characters that are so well written that each of them on their own would make a fantastic star in an entirely different story, all done with a childish ease and a cacophonous look that seems to underline its incredible power, like a burly five-hundred pound man wearing a tutu. (“Look, I don’t even need to try to be a fuckin’ masterpiece!”)
The dialogue is just the best. Period. Holy shit, your wordplay is godlike. I wish Mark were still around because every line he spits out of that mouth is enough to leave me in stitches, and I wish I could write stuff half as good because then I’d be utterly content with myself. Not to mention he and what he says illustrates best how little of a shit you give about people being offended by anything. That makes it way, way more real than the other things I read, where faggot and nigger are left out even in circumstances where they’d be used in The Real because they wouldn’t want to get some shmuck mad. Well, you keep using that stuff. It makes it ten times more relatable.
The plot also astounds me. I have no idea how far your genius went – if you planned this out beforehand or if you’re making it up as you go, but the details are so intricate I’m amazed. It feels like every time I think you can’t shock me anymore you go and do it anyway, too – again, reactions, and not really cheap reactions either. You just don’t see this level of fucked up, raw mayhem anywhere else, and it’s a great sight because it feels boundless, like nothing is holding it back. No artistic guidelines hold the art back, no societal boundaries hold the actions of the comic back, it’s just pure what it is and it doesn’t waste any time lingering on that.
I realize at this point that anyone reading this would probably think it’s really weird some dude wrote an entire mini-essay on how artistic a webcomic that really doesn’t give a shit is, but it deserves it, and you deserve it. This deserves a ton of fans and you deserve a ton of money for making it (more than the occasional book sale), although I’m rather glad neither happen because of bad fanart and pressure on your artistic intent, respectively. Hell, even the way you respond so well to the feedback you get in the comments deserves mention, because that’s just a nice-ass thing to do, dude.
Overall I couldn’t be happier with this. It’s real and raw and delicious and I love every second of it, and I can’t wait to see more after the binge-read I just went through. Thank you very much for providing this to people all over the world, and I wish you the best.
P.S. i’m totes gonna draw fanart of this some time dude
I don’t get why some people think that a waifu war will erupt between Katie, Trisssh, and Aurora. The way I see it, Trisssh views Pasqualo as her master, right? I doubt she would have problem with him being involved with other girls. If that was the case, she wouldn’t have spared Aurora and become friends with her. Aurora did tell her that she was the girl in the drawing that Pasqualo made after all. And I’m not sure that Aurora would have a problem either. Her character is all very kind and giving and slightly creepy and shit, so I don’t think she would get violent on purpose. But we still don’t understand what the fuck is going on with her completely, so whatever.
The only one of the three I can see having a problem is Katie, actually.
But I want you guys to realize something. Pasqualo is now the unwitting dictator of the school, his will enforced by Trisssh and possibly Aurora. The Empire of Pasqualo is coming along nicely.
“Of course I won’t grow up! I’ll never grow up! I’m fucking dead! I’ll never not be dead!”
Wow Gob is totally triggering deceased children. Wtf man?
“Burger Fun” came in quite handy!
I love how invested Skullcap Frank and Skeezy-E are with Trisssh’s car, like, yup! this sure is a thing that’s here!
“Yeah you’re right I’d never guess so I won’t try lol.”
IT ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL RETURRRRNNNSSS TO NOTTTHIINNNNNNGG
IT ALL COMES TUMBLING DOWN
TUMBLING DOWN
TUMBLING DOOWWWWNNN
“You made me I was able to eat a vampire”.
Need some grammar work there, Gob!
“With that stomach you made me, i was able to eat a vampire”
are you really going to shit yourself over a comma
“With that new stomach you made me I was able to eat a vampire”
I think it’s less Gob’s grammar and more -you- need to work on reading comprehension!
Yeah yeah, the missing comma was throwing me off.
Already stuffing vampires inside her. They grow up so fast..
So I really like this comic. The art is great, and the story is fun and the characters are likable.

That’s the most adorable last panel in a long time.
>with that new stomach you made me I was able to eat a vampire!!
>you made me I was able to eat
I think you forgot a comma there.
>with that new stomach you made me, I was able to eat a vampire!!
Otherwise without the comma it sounds kind of confusing.
It sounds no such thing. Imagine that she is excitedly exclaiming that statement in a single excited zombie-stank breath. She’s the new goddamn zombie king, she doesn’t have the time to pause for a clause.
But can she take nasty, horrid vampire dumps with it?
I finally received the book. Thank you so much for the sketch! I like it. You can bet I’ll be first in line for the next one!
Are you the dude who asked for Resident Evil dressup? I hope I did that okay. I had to ask for help on Twitter haha
Yeah, that’s right I loved it! I appreciate you taking that extra step.
Yay!

Thank you so very very much for your kind words. I’m really glad you enjoy this silly dumb thing so much.
I would like to clarify that I’ve stopped using N-bombs and “bad F-word”-bombs in this comic since some time before comic 100.
Please keep reading and I’ll do my best to poop out a half-decent comic sir. Thank you so much I love you.
Haha, Mr. Jones is pretty happy there in the last panel. It’s the little things, y’know.
Aww man I love this fuckin’ comic so much. But you’re going to keep Auroa and Pac from meeting for way too long for my heart to take it. ;-;

I can see Aurora secretly building some sort of horrible Pasqualo puppet out of all those body parts he keeps shedding.
What is the name of her car?
Ssstacy.
you know what this calls for
