I’m still lingering on this theory that Pasquallo is actually the only one in hell.
Everyone around him isn’t actually there. They act like them, think like them, but they aren’t them.
As Pasquallo slowly comes to realise that everyone he ever loved isn’t really there with him, their constant presence would become a torturous reminder that he is completely alone.
Though, with the past couple of comics, I’m starting to think that Gob’s Hell is worse.
I actually started thinking that this type of theory might actually be present since the buildings, if not the majority of structures in hell in this arc, take a different art-style, indicating this might be Pasqualo’s form of personal hell so to say.
I like to imagine the “I know.” part was a Star Wars reference put in to distract us from the fact we’re all super sad about a series of events that included a giant zombie demon dog named Poop.
Whether it was or not, the significance is that saying “I know” to I love you is not saying that you love them back. She’s coming to realize she doesn’t want to stay with him.

but….peeplops wandered into the void…the guide to hell himself said all that he was would fade to nothing and no one wpould remember who he was

Katie is being a hypocrite right here . She spent all those years saying shit everybody believed to be crazy talk, but that she knew was true, and Pasq was the only one to believe her. Now Pasq is saying shit that sounds like crazy talk, and she wont believe him, despite all the things they have seen up to this point.
The way I see it is like: Pasq spent those years in homeroom barely believing a word Katie said. He thought she was crazy. He’d smile and listen to her and take her wacky advice because he thought it was funny and interesting. It wasn’t until after the talent show that Pasq actually believed her.
As for Katie’s perspective here, she doesn’t remember a thing about Tubsy or Poop. And Pasq has a history of sorta whining and crying. But now he’s talking about people that don’t exist. To Katie it looks like Pasqualo’s anxiety about Hell is taking a step into the crazy zone. While she cares about him, she also cares about school and being on time (for whatever reason). Hell is a strange place.
I think Pasq saying “batshit crazy” hurt Katie pretty bad. So right now she’d rather not talk to Pasqualo.

He tried to pass off what he was doing with Katie as something entirely different to what he was actually doing, he was claiming he was this super supportive dude to guilt Katie into believing him blindly when they both know he thought she was crazy and was mostly just talked to her to entertain himself. So already Katie has every right to set the record straight, but Pasqualo also managed to hurt a sore spot for Katie as she probably spent most of her life being unjustly dismissed.
Pasqualo has spent less than a minute feeling what it’s like for someone else to doubt their sanity and in his frustration tries to throw something in Katie’s face. All Katie did was what anyone would do in that situation. Katie isn’t angry about what happened back then (or if she is she recognizes it’s unfair), but she is angry about what Pasqualo is saying right now. It’s like if your dad tried to say you should feel obligated to him because he paid so much for your childhood, and you both know that was child support and the court had to force it out of him; you both know he wasn’t doing anything selfless.
Yeah, but Pasqualo also just saw 2 ppl die in front of him. So his outburst IS justified.
But it’s not like Katie isn’t justified in how she’s acting. I don’t blame either character.

Just want to say I think it’s sweet that Ally stayed there with Pasq. After all the insanity that’s happened since this comic started I’m glad they’re still besties.
I just wanted to say, Gob, I just went through a rough time, and during that time I remembered this comic and how I used to read every strip. For some reason I stopped a bit into the high school sabotage arc, but I’ve caught up now and… Wow. You don’t pull punches, and what started as this funny little jokey comic has become such a bona fide work of art that it’s amazing!
It also reminded me of this time I was showing this to a friend at a party and someone overheard me saying “webcomics” and thought I said PlebComix, and there were a lot of liberals there, so everyone shouted at me and left. It was pretty funny.

Holy fuck i just read up to the current comic, i started like yesterday and Gob, your comic is fucking amazing and i’m sad for not finding it sooner. This is the perfect mix of fucking hilariously funny/slightly serious at times and the humour is amazing, cheers to you man, cheers to you.
