As much as I hate to admit it, I kind of agree with you.
Right up until the ball-kick this comic was pretty on-point, but for Dad to be brought to the verge of tears over his hat feels kinda weird. I mean, beyond #15 there wasn’t really much setup for Dad’s hat being that important to him, and even that kinda felt like a throwaway joke.
Plus, Pasquallo suddenly getting over literally years of stockholm syndrome all of a sudden because of Dad insulting Sailor Moon doesn’t sit well with me. Like, I get that the joke is that out of everything Dad has ever done, THAT is what gets Pasqy to finally man up, but I can’t believe that Dad never did anything like that before.
That said, I did like the tiny gilmmer of pride in Dad’s face at the end. That first panel was fucking masterful, too.
It does, but whenever Dad was brought up Pasqy would jump right into his “I love my dad he was perfect” routine.
Hopefully we’ll get to see a whole “Fuck you Dad, you were a dick” rant later.

Pasqualo on the other hand has been through some stuff, and while he may be an immature brat still, he’s changed a bit.
This comic is the moment where Pasqualo finally realizes that all along his dad was a real jerk. Dad might’ve talked shit about Pasqy’s anime before but right now Pasq wasn’t in the mood to deal with it. He’s a man on a mission.
As for Dad’s reaction to being kicked in the nuts by his son and watching him eat his hat, well, we’ve just never seen this side of Dad before. We’ve never seen him get assaulted and have his favorite article of clothing eaten. It stirred up a whirlwind of emotions inside of him and he finally settled down to a confused pride. His shitty kid finally stood up for himself big time.
Whether I conveyed this well or not is up to you guys. 😀

Yeah, it fell a bit flat. I was hoping his comeuppance would be a bit weightier, or that he’d at least stay stoically nasty to the end and it’d bite him in the ass, or something. Instead he just acts like, well, Pasqualo, and that’s supposed to be how he’s defeated? By being made to act effeminate?
Like this could have worked just as well if Dad just got angrier when Pasqualo took his hat and kicked him in the balls and just got frustrated when that didn’t keep Pasqualo from standing up for himself, or if Pasqualo started rolling off how little he cares about what his dad thinks.
Thirdly! In strip #15, “Dad”, Obtusangelo Trianglini clearly states that he is about to have some alone time with a sledgehammer and some pornography-filled CD-R’s, yet, in this strip, both he and Pasqualo refer to a jackhammer instead! I mean, what are we to believe, that this is a magic sledgehammer/jackhammer hybrid, or something? Ha ha, boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder!
Wait… in holding his balls after the kick, is he indirectly touching his dick through his pants? Does Daddy McDad-dad go to hell now, or is that like a loophole where-in as long as you don’t directly touch your own dick you’re fine?
